  • 04 August 2006 - New Orleans - Louisiana. Repass after the Funeral - St Anne Street.  Friends and relatives of three young men gunned down late at night on this gritty city street on July 28th pay their respects and celebrate their lives in a repass followed by a Second line celebration, a musical tradition, march and dance led by the Rebirth Brass Band. 4 men were cruelly gunned down that night in one incident as crime spirals out of control in New Orleans. Three of the victims, all brothers buried today are Kadeem Stephen (16yrs), Kendall Stephen (21yrs) and Kareem Stephen (also 16yrs). Friends and relatives, many wearing RIP t-shirts ate, drank and gathered to remember the young victims of this heinous crime. Candles are lit and placed on an RIP t-shirt in the street in memorial to the young men at the spot they died.

  • May 5th, 2006. Lower 9th Ward, New Orleans, Louisiana. Over 8 months after hurricane Katrina and still the city remains largely in ruins in many devastated neighbourhoods. Wayne Buford, director of the State Emergency Management Agency with his dog Rusty outside a building tagged with RIP graffiti. Buford is in charge of the grim task of body recovery from the ruins of the the Lower 9th Ward. His dog Rusty is a trained cadaver dog, used to sniff out human remains still buried in the rubble. They continue to find skeletal remains.

  • 4th Feb, 2006. New Orleans, Louisiana. An American flag, ripped and damaged by hurricane Katrina recieves a follow up battering from a tornado which smashed through River Bend in uptown New Orleans a few days earlier. The city may be down, but the flag still flies over New Orleans.

  • 17 August 2006 - Slidell - Louisiana. George Arieux, 69 yrs old.<br />
George stands amidst the little that remains of his home at 153 Carr Drive. Hurricane Katrina wiped out George's house and all his belongings. He believes State Farm Insurance company owes him over $46,000. He has recieved a paltry $7,000, despite being a loyal, policy paying customer for decades.<br />

  • 17 August 2006 - Slidell - Louisiana. Linda Spears (58 yrs) and her husband Charles (65 yrs) struggle in the cramped conditions of their FEMA trailer located on the site of their former home at 180a, Lakeview Drive. Hurricane Katrina wiped out the Spears' house, taking everything they owned. They are currently taking legal action against State Farm insurance company who have paid them a paltry $3,000 instead of settling with them for the insured value of their home and contents which total in excess of $230,000.<br />

Residents of the city gather on Esplanade Ave and march in a jazz funeral procession to the St Anna's Episcopal Church to remember the animals lost to hurricane Katrina. John Clark weeps as he remembers his dog Katie-Raz. Friend Mary Horaist remembers her dog Fed, also lost as a result of hurricane Katrina.

Pall bearers at the funeral for teenage shooting victim Dwayne Matthew Joseph at the Franklin Avenue Baptist Church. 17 year old Joseph was shot and killed following an altercation in the street May 26th. Raised by his great grandmother Catherine Robinson, family and friends confirmed Dwayne was a good kid who went to church, looked after his younger siblings and had never been in trouble with the law. Dwayne's older brother Damien preceded him in death. He too was shot dead in February 2011 aged just 19 years.<br />

Dwayne's older brother Damien preceded him in death. He too was shot dead in February 2011 aged just 19 years.<br />

Memorial Register. The Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme is a war memorial to 72,337 missing British and South African servicemen who perished in the Battles of the Somme of the First World War between 1915 and 1918, with no known grave. The visitors' centre opened in 2004. The memorial was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and has been described as "the greatest executed British work of monumental architecture of the twentieth century".<br />
On the Portland stone piers are engraved the names of over 72,000 men who were lost in the Somme battles between July 1915 and March 1918<br />

Raised by his great grandmother Catherine Robinson, family and friends confirmed Dwayne was a good kid who went to church, looked after his younger siblings and had never been in trouble with the law. Dwayne's older brother Damien preceded him in death. He too was shot dead in February 2011 aged just 19 years.<br />

Just across the valley from Lochnagar Crater lie the remains of 3,440 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War buried or commemorated in the cemetery. 2,480 of the burials are unidentified. The cemetery also contains the graves of 120 fallen French servicemen. Many of the casualties occured the first day of the Battle off the Somme, July 1st 1916 when British troops attempted to take the towns of ovillers and la Boisselle after detonating an enormous mine at Lochnagar. Heavily fortified German positions annihilated the British advance leaving in excess of 6,000 casualties on the first day of the battle of the Somme. In total there were over 1 million casualties during the battle with over 60,000 casualties on July 1st 1916.<br />
