Gilets Jaunes - Acte X take to the streets of Paris. Shop workers watch the march from behind locked doors. An estimated 7,000 people took part in the looping 14 km route from Place des Invalides to protest tax hikes from the Government of Emmanuel Macron imposed on the people. An estimated 80,000 people took part in protests across the country. Regrettably the movement has attracted a violent element of agitators who often face off with riot police at the end of the marches which tends to deflect attention away from the message of the vast majority of peaceful protesters.
• 9th December, 2005. Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans, Louisiana. 3 1/2 months after the storm, New Orleans continues to bury the victims. 77 year old widow Geneva and family at the funeral of her husband Vincent Giuffre at Greenwood cemetery. 87 year old Guiffre died in the arms of his 77 yr old wife Geneva in New Orleans East as the flood waters swirled aroud their kitchen. Geneva placed her cat Patsy in her attic, fully expecting her beloved pet to die. She swam out of her back door, leaving her husband's body floating in the kitchen. She held onto the drain surrounding her house roof and made her way to the front of the building where she clung on to the drainpipe for 3 days. Geneva was rescued by helicopter, taken to Houston. Her frantic family did not learn that she was safe for 4 days. The only thing she was able to save from her house was her wedding ring. Geneva and Vincent had been married 56 years. Miraculously a neighbour saved her cat, discovering it alive 3 weeks after the storm hit. Geneva and her cat now live with her son Gary in Atlanta.

P&J Oyster House, a New Orleans institution has closed its door after 143 years in business. Incomes have crashed as all seafood prices have risen over 30% in the past 4 weeks alone as stocks run low thanks to closed fishing grounds affected by oil pollution. BP's disastrous environmental catastrophe out in the Gulf of Mexico threatens the livelihood of many thousands of workers affiliated to the fishing industry in Louisiana. Earnings are down as much as 50% of those pre BP's oil disaster. Thousands of barrels of oil per day continues to leak into the Gulf because of the explosion and collapse of the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform 46 miles out to sea. The closure of fishing grounds both east and west of the Mississippi river outflow is crippling thousands of local fishermen and all affiliated businesses and families who rely on the seafood industry. it is feared that many more will lose their jobs and everything they own as a result of BP's Gulf Coast environmental disaster.
3 1/2 months after the storm, New Orleans continues to bury the victims. 77 year old widow Geneva is embraced by her grandson at the funeral of her husband Vincent Giuffre at Greenwood cemetery. 87 year old Guiffre died in the arms of his 77 yr old wife Geneva in New Orleans East as the flood waters swirled around their kitchen.
